Masteron (Drostanolone)

masteronMasteron (2alpha-methyl-androstan-3-one-17beta-ol, 2alpha-methyl-dihydrotestosterone) is the commercial name for the Anabolic Steroid, Drostanolone. With an Anabolic Rating of 62 – 130 and an Androgenic Rating of 25 – 40, Masteron is not considered a strong Steroid and is therefore typically used in cutting cycles.

Masteron is a DHT derived Anabolic Steroid, other Steroids belonging to this family are Winstrol, Anavar, Primobolan and Anadrol. As with these other Steroids, Masteron does not convert to Estrogen, and its commonly referred to as a “dry” Steroid, due to there being zero water retention associated with using Masteron.

Discovered in 1959 and developed by Syntex, it was not until around 1969 that Masteron finally made it onto the market. Syntex worked alongside Lilly developing and marketing Masteron, Lilly ended up selling Masteron in the United States under the brand name Drolban, while Syntex concentrated on the international market.

For medical purposes, Masteron was used with success in combating Breast Cancer in its advanced stages, Masteron however is rarely used these days for females suffering from Breast Cancer as there are now more effective options available.

Masteron gained its popularity amongst bodybuilders around 1980, however it soon became harder and harder to get hold of as pharmaceutical companies stopped producing it. Masteron eventually became impossible to get hold of, until underground labs started producing it in the early 2000’s.

Masteron Cycle

Masteron is said to only be effective and show great results in users who already have a low body fat level. It has shown to provide rock hard muscles and striations all over ones physique. Although it would technically be possible to run Drostanolone in a bulking cycle, it wouldn’t have much effect on muscle building and would ultimately be a waste of money.

There are many different Steroids to choose from when creating a cutting cycle, most bodybuilders do not use Masteron until they are closer to competition day and are already extremely lean. Steroids such as Trenbolone are usually run instead of Masteron until the user has lowered his body fat enough to see the full benefits of Masteron.

Drostanolone Propionate is the more commonly used version of Masteron, it has a short half-life of only 2.5 days and thus needs to be injected a minimum of every second day. This short half-life also means Masteron builds up in the bloodstream fast and starts working within the first week of starting this Steroid.

Depending on the users experience and size, Masteron is taken in doses of 100 to 150mg eod (every other day), generally used with Steroids such as Winstrol, Trenbolone and a low dose of Testosterone Propionate. Clenbuterol and Thyroid hormone (T3) are also extremely common in cutting cycles containing Masteron. Using the above mentioned drugs in a cutting cycle along with a low calorie diet, users can experience huge changes in their physiques over short periods of time.

Masteron Side Effects

Being a mild Steroid, Masteron users often don’t see many if any side effects, however Masteron is still an Anabolic Steroid and there are many side effects that are all possible.

Gynecomastia and water retention are not possible with this Steroid as Masteron does not convert to Estrogen, which is the reason it’s a popular cutting steroid. Due to there being no water retention, high blood pressure is generally not a side effect seen with Masteron.

Acne, Accelerated Hair Loss and Aggression are all possible, however if low dosages of Masteron are used, these side effects are usually not a problem.
